Year 1

Welcome to Year 1

Class teacher: Mrs Durrani

Teaching assistants: Mrs Betteley (Monday-Wednesday) and Mrs Chadwick (Thursday-Friday)

Our PE days are Monday and Thursday.

At St Dominic's we believe reading is essential for children's development and supports their knowledge and understanding in all subjects. Enjoying and sharing books, in school and at home, leads to children seeing books as a source of pleasure. We encourage children to have an interest in reading and, through enjoyment, hope to instil a love of reading and so motivating them to value reading.

In Year 1 we are following the Little Wandle Scheme working towards the Phonics screening check in June. This will involve the children using the sounds they have learnt in Phonics lesson to decode and read a range of real and not real/alien words. The work we are doing in our Phonics lessons throughout the year will be preparing the children for the Phonics screening test.

Phonics play is a great website to learn Phonics in a fun way.

Free Ebooks can be accessed on Oxford Owl

Topmarks and ICT Games have a range of age appropriate games for learning.

Your child will have a login for Numbots and Purplemash.

All Saints Catholic Academy Trust (ASCAT)

Formed in 2016, as part of the Diocese of Westminster's Academy Strategy, we provide a collaborative structure of school support and innovation for Catholic schools in South West Hertfordshire. Our vision of an 'Outstanding Education for All' comes from this desire to enable all members of school communities to flourish and succeed and to do all that we can to make our schools places where ambition for all is at the heart of everything that we do.
