St Dominic Catholic Primary

If we live by truth and in love, we shall grow in Christ

Welcome to Reception

Welcome to the Reception blog.

The children have had a wonderful start to their school journey. They have settled in really well and adjusted to our boundaries and expectations. They are particularly enjoying being outside and in the mud kitchen. We are really enjoying getting to know them too!

Our theme this half term is 'Happy To Be Me'. Last week we explored who we are as individuals and we talked about how we are all different. Some children have created a self portrait using paint.

This week we have been learning about our eyes and ears. We have been on sound walks around the school and played games in the classroom to explore the ways that we use both our eyes and our ears. We have also been focussing on communication, practising speaking and listening skills.

In Maths we have been learning to subitise. This enables the children to recognise numbers without counting. The children really enjoyed looking at different dot patterns and explaining which numbers they could see.

In Literacy the children drew pictures of what they heard on their sound walks, and thought about what the initial sounds were. For example, 't' for 'train'.

In RE last week we explored the school mission statement and learned more about who St Dominic is. This week we have started the topic 'Myself', the children have explored the concept that their name is special and that everyone is different. They then went on to write some or all of their name.

In PE the children have worked hard with Mr Simmonds to learn how to get changed and they have explored different ways of moving, e.g. hopping, jumping etc.

Thank you all for your patience and cooperation with the changes at drop off and ordering lunches etc.

We wish you a happy and safe weekend.

Best wishes,

Miss Day and the EYFS team.
