St Dominic Catholic Primary

If we live by truth and in love, we shall grow in Christ

During our Maths lessons, the children have been using vocabulary such as long, longer, longest, short, shorter, shortest, heavier, lighter, fastest and slowest to measure a range of objects.

In English, the children have enjoyed listening to the story of ‘My Mum’ by Anthony Browne.  They have been using similes to describe their mum and this book will be used to support the children when writing poems about their Mum.

During our Phonics lessons, the children have been reading nonsense words (also referred to as fake or alien words). We have used the website www.phonicsplay.co.uk and the children have enjoyed playing the games Buried Treasure, Dragon’s Den and Picnic on Pluto. This is a free resource that can be used at home to help the children to blend phonic sounds and read real and nonsense words.

We have begun our new topic on 'Happy Families' and will be learning about changes over time. We will specifically look at the Victorian era and find out what life was like for a child at this time.

As we journey through Lent, we will begin our new RE topic on ‘Change’ next week. During this topic, the children will be acting out the story of Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

We look forward to seeing you on Friday afternoon at 2.15 when we join Year 2 to celebrate our Mothers’ Day Liturgy.
