Science Week in Year 2
This week, Year 2 have had an exciting science week, full of different activities around the theme of growth. We started off our learning with exploring a little bit about meadows and grasslands and the habitats that live there. Then we went outside to help with our school meadow project, with some soil turning. In addition, we had the chance to plant some seeds and flowers in our playground. As we were planting the seeds and flowers, we discussed what is needed for plants to survive and grow.
Later in the week, we had an exciting visit from one of the Professor Bubbleworks scientists. We carried out lots of exciting activities with him, including fire tornadoes, bubble bouncing, mentos explosions and full body size bubbles. We had so much fun!
As part of our topic of animals including humans, we welcomed some new members of year 2….12 caterpillars! After investigating a variety of animal life cycles, we thought it would be exciting to see the life cycle of a caterpillar for ourselves. We have now had the caterpillars for 2 weeks and already they have grown so much. We know that the next stage will be for the caterpillars to form their chrysalis before becoming a butterfly.
To finish our exciting week, we learnt a little about acids and alkalis. We used our knowledge to create a class George’s Marvellous Medicine potion that explodes. It was really fun!
