If we live by truth and in love, we shall grow in Christ

Learning Update

Over the past two weeks, Year 6 have been enjoying using ’Arthur Spiderwick’s Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around You’ as a stimulus for their writing. During our English lessons, Year 6 have encountered a number of mythical creatures; they really were astonished to find out that a leprechaun may be causing havoc on the school field and were even more surprised to discover that I encountered a real-life “Cockatrice” on a woodland walk!

Our focus throughout has been to be able to build cohesion in our writing through starting our sentences in a variety of interesting ways. We have also been revising how to vary the clause structure within our sentences to make it more interesting for the reader.

In some of our lessons, we have been using freeze-frames and thought tracking to allow us to get into role. We studied “Boggarts” in the field guide and thought about what we would do to wreak havoc in our homes and classroom if we were a Boggart; we came up with lots of excellent ideas and then used this to write diary entries in role.
