It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...
Well done to the children and Mrs Serra for bringing the glitter and glitz to our Year 1 classroom today.
A big ‘Well done’ to the children who designed their own Christmas hat. They all looked AMAZING and it was very difficult to choose a winner as so much effort had been put into creating such masterpieces. Congratulations to James for winning the prize!
We joined in a lovely whole school assembly on Tuesday to celebrate the first week of Advent. To follow on from this in our RE lessons, we have been learning about the symbols of the Advent wreath.
In our Maths lessons, we have continued to learn about the properties of shape focussing especially on 3D – cube, cuboid, sphere, cylinders and pyramids. The children had fun completing a quiz with shapes, sorting them by different criteria and exploring whether a shape will roll or stack.
This week in Forest School, the children had lots of fun making their special wands. They were introduced to using ‘loppers’ to cut their wood which I hear was a great success.
During Science, we have continued to record the weather and have been observing the length of daylight in wintertime.
The children have focussed on ‘designing and making’ in Design and Technology. They have been exploring making a moving picture using a slider and lever. They are working towards creating a greetings card for someone special at Christmas.
I have been recommended a link for an active Advent calendar that is free for children to use at home. There appears to be some fun activities that I am sure the children may enjoy in the run up to that 'special day'. The link is for ‘imoves’ and you will need to set up an account if you do not have one. www.activeadvent.fun
The children have been working hard to learn the songs for the KS1 Nativity. We will be recording the songs next week so that they can be shared with you. Please could children bring in a festive jumper or Christmas hat/boppers to wear from Wednesday onwards for the recording.
Have a lovely weekend!
