St Dominic Catholic Primary

If we live by truth and in love, we shall grow in Christ

Well, the Christmas festivities have begun!

The Year 4 assembly that we attended today was a lovely introduction to the season of Advent.

The children have worked extremely hard this term and are now busy learning the songs to accompany the Year 2 children in the ‘Fairy Tale Land Nativity’. During RE, the children have been thinking about how it feels to 'wait'  for something just as Mary waited for baby Jesus. A parcel arrived in class, and the children had to think about how it felt to wait for a whole minute to open it.

We have also been finding out about the symbols of Advent.  The children created their own little Advent wreath to help them understand which candle is lit each Sunday as we journey through Advent. They have also been listening to the story of the ‘Annunciation’ when Angel Gabriel visited Mary to announce that she was going to be the mother of Jesus.

In Maths, the children have been using addition and subtraction to solve number word problems. They have been encouraged to use the vocabulary of 'more' and ‘fewer’ to compare the value of different numbers.

The e-book that we are reading in English has enabled the children to find out about the features of a non-fiction text. They have also been writing factual sentences and learning how to write a diary entry.

Just as I was about to leave the classroom this evening, I heard a commotion in the igloo. It appears that a little elf has turned up in the book corner and was up to no good. I think we will have to work together as a class to keep an eye on that little elf to ensure he does not get up to any more mischief!

Enjoy the weekend!
