St Dominic Catholic Primary

If we live by truth and in love, we shall grow in Christ

In English, the children have continued to use the text ‘Here Comes Mr Postmouse’. They have been writing thank you notes to Mr Postmouse, and party invitations in the role as the character Pipsqueak. Through this task, the children have been writing statements and encouraged to use question marks.

The children enjoyed the challenge of the ‘Building Curiosity and Confidence Maths Investigation Day’. They used a variety of concrete resources to explore the power of number patterns.

This week, Year 1 pupils have been finding equal parts of a whole using Cuisenaire rods.

During RE, the children have been thinking about the ‘Special People’ in the church. We discussed the order of the Mass and the different roles that individual people do within the church.

In Science, we froze objects in pots and then the children investigated how to keep the ice from melting.

Through our topic, the children have been learning about our local area. We looked at a map, discussed the symbols and found out where our school is located. Afterwards, the children created their own maps of the surrounding area of the school.

In Art and Design, the children have been exploring textures. They began by selecting a range of materials and then used their imagination to create a collage of their own.
