St Dominic Catholic Primary

If we live by truth and in love, we shall grow in Christ

A busy time in Year 1!

During our English lessons, the children have been writing lists and captions linked to our Little Red Riding story. They have been using their phonic knowledge and have been supported with word banks.

In Maths, the children have been representing numbers in different ways and counting ‘one more’ than a given number.

The children have continued to listen to Psalms in RE.  These have been teaching us about the love and care shown to us by God. The children have been writing their own, reflecting on what they have heard.

Next week, we will begin our new RE topic on ‘Belonging’. During class worship time, the children will be learning the ‘Hail Mary’ prayer in dedication to October being the month of the Holy Rosary.

During Science, Ms Walsh has been teaching the children about the four seasons. They began by grouping themselves together in the seasons that their birthdays are celebrated. They have also been observing and describing the weather in autumn.

In Art and Design, the children have been using their observational skills to draw objects. They have also been colour mixing and focussing on the primary and secondary colours.

A big well done to all those children who put themselves forward to take on the roles of ECO representatives and School Council representatives for our class. The children voted for each other and the results were announced today in assembly. The children that will be representing Year 1 are as follows:

The ECO Team - Olivia and Nicolas

The School Council – Mila-Mae and Alexander

Have a lovely weekend!
